Not too long ago, the Postmaster General testified before Congress regarding the severe financial distress, including a possible bankruptcy filing, currently experienced by the Postal Service. Apparently, the Postal Service will go bankrupt by the end of the year without some significant changes being made.
I see evidence of the challenges facing the post office every day here at the office. The evidence is in the form of a pile of junk mail that appears on my desk every morning. It's fairly seldom that I receive important documents in the mail. The junk mail is even delivered on Saturdays, to every tenant in the office park, even though hardly anybody works on Saturday.
It should be interesting to see how the situation is resolved. The head of the postal workers union not too long ago suggested a tax on email to subsidize the postal service. It would be a huge crisis for this bankruptcy attorney if my Saturday junk mail were interrupted for any reason, even if I'm usually not in the office to see it until Monday.
